The Wall Street Journal Reports “Remodel Projects are Back”

by Allen

This link will take you to the whole article in the WSJ, http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704653204576112660533881144.html?KEYWORDS=remodeling

The article starts off, “After years of shelving projects and doing only improvements deemed absolutely necessary, more homeowners are dusting off their remodeling plans this year as they grow more hopeful about the economy.”

Are you ready to dust off your remodeling list and start building again.  Homeowners are starting with simple projects such as sliding glass doors and front door replacement.  Already this year we have completed a kitchen remodel and bathroom remodel.  We removed a wall between two rooms to open up the area though we had to preform some framing and install a header (LVL).

What will your next project be, a family room or master bedroom addition? Do you need to build an in-law apartment for your parents this year?  Does the exterior of your house need to painted or would you prefer maintenance free vinyl siding.

Did you know that we service Milford, Amherst, Nashua, Hudson, Merrimack, Bedford, Mt Vernon, Hollis, Brookline, Temple, Wilton and Manchester?

Email us at allenremodeling@myfairpoint.net and have us quote your remodeling job this year, you will not be disappointed!

Homeowners are Remodeling

by Allen

A fellow business associate of mine, Susanne Lynch of Virtual Homes Real Estate, forwarded me this article posted in the Nashua Telegraph that Homeowners are Cautiously Remodeling again.  Briefly, the article informs us that Homeowners are ready to start investing in their homes again.  They see the economy is improving and they are willing to spend on home improvements.   http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/newsworldnation/910277-227/homeowners-cautiously-remodel.html.

Over the last year we have installed new windows, several new sliding glass doors and front, entryway doors.   This winter we were busy remodeling a kitchen and installing a new bathroom for two different Homeowners.  Already in 2011 we have meet with a Homeowner in Amherst who needs more room , they want to build a master suite (bedroom and bathroom) above their existing garage and want to convert that garage into a family room.    Also working with another customer in Merrimack who are looking to enlarge their kitchen by 12′ and install new cabinets and flooring.

There are many ways to spruce up your home and not break the preverbal bank, put a fresh coat of paint on the interior or exterior of your home.  Replacing an old, drafty front door with an energy efficient door will save money and look fantastic.  Put a small entryway or front porch on the front of your home to give you additional outdoor living space.

My favorite remodel upgrade is giving your old pressure treated deck a face lift.  Many people are investing in composite decking (Azek) and railings and putting up a new deck.  There is a great way to save money, pull up the old decking and leave the frame and the footings.  Now you are ready to install new decking and railings and eliminate the cost of framing the deck.  Your old deck and even be enlarged.

So everybody think spring and spring projects!!

Rebuilding a Wall

by Allen

This Homeowner had a flood in their basement, the insurance company came in and gutted the entire area.  Allen Remodeling was asked to come in and take down this particular wall, frame in a new entrance to open up both rooms.  Keith will be putting in a support beam (LVL) so the main floor of the house will be supported.

Kitchen Remodel – Complete

by Allen

The Kitchen Remodel is complete, scroll down to the older posts for pics of the original kitchen, what a difference!!  I love how the Homeowner selected a darker floor color to contrast the living room oak floor.  The black, UBA TUBA, granite countertops are a perfect complement to the maple cabinets.

Opening the old dining room into the kitchen gives the Homeowner an open, airy, enlarged space to entertain.  Visit our Kitchen Portfolio for pictures of other remodels.

WMUR reports on snow loads on Roofs

by Allen

The latest from WMUR.COM, NH News source, reports “Fire Official: Take Care Of Roofs, Clear All Exits Of Homes”.

With the current amount of snow on some peoples homes plus the chance of incoming rain/sleet/snow will add an extra heaviness to the roof of your home.  The snow will act as a sponge and absorb the rain.

It is advised, if you can safely remove the snow from your roof do so to avoid structural damage or even your roof collapsing.   If you cannot safely remove the snow yourself, hire a professional like Allen Remodeling to remove it for you.
