Can I put a foundation in the ground if it is frozen?

Family Room Addition

A customer called today interested in having Allen Remodeling provide a quote for a family room addition for her house in Merrimack, NH. Her first question was, at what time of the year would be the latest opportunity we can put a foundation in the ground? That is a great question because one would think once ‘winter’ arrives and even the first snow fall it is too late to install a foundation. One year we put a foundation in, Bedford NH, before Christmas, framed the exterior, sided and roofed the addition all within on month’s time. And thankfully we were able to work indoors for the more brutal portion of the winter. Excavation equipment can breakthrough frozen ground and when pouring a foundation we need to add an extra chemical to the cement to enhance the hardening product. Another year we put a foundation at the end of November for a customer in Milford NH, they were building an in-law apartment for their mother and the ground was perfect.

If building an family room addition is on your wish list for the year 2011, please give us a call and we will be able to oblige your request. Visit our portfolio of work to view additions that we have built over the years.
